ongoing

This weekend we tackled our master bedroom closet. It was a huge task. Last week we had worked on our master bedroom and it was all neat and tidy and clutter free. I emptied the closet while Kevin was at the gym. No word of a lie our room was FULL of stuff. We have a average sized walk in closet. It isn't huge but it is bigger than a normal closet. Kev and I can both stand in it and at the same time. As I was emptying it I found things that I hadn't seen since we moved in 4 years ago. In the rush to move in I must have just shoved them to the back and forgotten about them.

When Kevin got home we went to work. Anything that didn't belong in the closet was moved to its rightful spot. I give Kevin an enormous amount of credit because he went through his clothing and he was ruthless. The bulk of the stuff we now have waiting for the good will to pick up is his. I let go of a few more pants and some shoes that I hadn't worn in years. At the end of it all we have a very comfortable closet with nothing on the floor, other than shoes. We have 3 more green garbage bags full of clothing for good will (that's 4 and counting). And we have almost 70 wire hangers to get rid of. I don't want to throw them out. Do you guys know of anywhere that will take them?

Next weekend we tackle M's room. I am looking forward to this. I never thought I would enjoy this so much. I think the main reason I am enjoying it is because I have Kevin as my partner in this work. It makes it so much more manageable, it is almost fun.

Reading about your decluttering is starting to make me feel like a loser. Every weekend I have a plan to tackle my closet or Kaeli's room, and every weekend turns into a big FAIL! LOL.

The wire hangers - think of places that might have a coat check (community centres, banquet halls etc.). They're often looking.

Good job on the closet!

Does your city have Freecycle? You post items you no longer want and people will come pick them up.

You are rocking at the decluttering!

Here in Ottawa you can return wire hangers to most dry cleaners. We have a "take it back!" recycling program where you can get a list of participating stores. I'm sure most cities have a similar program.

I'm very envious of your clean out project! It's inspiring. Right now I'm trying to get a handle on all the baby stuff in the basement...I think the closets will have to wait until the baby is just a wee bit older.

I loooove getting rid of stuff. Love it. Makes me feel...awesome. Because we have too much! OMG, I donated some of my brand-new Christmas presents to charity that were still in the box. I just can't handle the stuff.

Please tell all my friends and relatives to just keep their money, or give me gift certificates for groceries. No more stuffff!

My dry cleaners takes the hangers back too. You're making me feel entirely inadequate with this clutter task. Every time I look at my closet, I cringe and pretend to be waiting for all the "baby fat" to be gone before I get rid of stuff. I actually reached that weight already, so now I'm just waiting for my shape to come back. It is coming, right?

You're doing AWESOME!!!! Isn't it great to live with less stuff?!?!

My cleaning lady is coming tomorrow and really, my house doesn't look like it needs her!! ...but I'm not doing toilets!! ;)

tackling huge jobs are much more fun with family & friends. When I lost weight and cleaned out my closet I invited 2 friends over to gather up the "leftovers". It was a riot!

Oh my gosh if Hubby would help me, I would be in heaven!!

Good for you guys, it must feel great to unload some stuff. Coat hangers can usually go back to the dry cleaners, they should be thankful to get some back ;)

Dude. You are doing some serious purging! We just went at our basement, necessary b/c we are going to do some renos. It was painful.

so impressed. truly. i need to do this (our closet is huge, and is practically two rooms. my hubbies side is virtually spotless. mine... not so much.)

i think that dry cleaners will take the hangers. or offer them on freecycle.

Four years? I have to do this once a year or we'd be swamped! Good to purge, eh?
