Just when you thought you knew me...

"They" reveal the REAL me:
I actually found this book in my work library. I wonder who brought it in? I am thinking I don't want to know :)

The great wrap disaster of 2009

Preface: My kids like wraps for breakfast (in lieu of sliced bread).

A disaster was reported from the TwoHandsFull home on the morning of August 27th 2009. The TwoHandsFull children were outraged when they discovered that there was only one wrap left.

Mother TwoHandsFull attempted to dissolve the situation by suggesting one child change their choice of breakfast to any of the other completely acceptable options available.

Both TwoHandsFull children stubbornly stood their ground, and whined a whole lot, neither giving in to the change in menu option.

Mother TwoHandsFull then proceeded to cut said wrap in two and give each child half. She informed them that if neither would agree to a change, they would have to share.

Much whining and grumbling was heard as each half wrap was consumed. Each child then requested an additional breakfast item to fill their tragically half empty stomachs.

Mother TwoHandsFull was reprimanded by local authorities for letting the stock of wraps get so low. Father TwoHandsFull was also informed of the disaster via e-mail and has agreed that he will also monitor wrap inventory to avoid a future disaster.

August Recap post - Photo heavy

I was clearing out my camera and found inspiration for a post. This has been a wonderful month. I just wish it could go on forever.

Birthday party: This is the best photo I could find that only had D's face in it (I don't like posting photos of other peoples kids on my blog, then I would feel obligated to tell them I have a blog, and then I might have to explain why I have a blog... And I really don't feel like going there). Does he look like he is having fun! Oh YA!

One of the games we played involved Kevin putting a cone on his head and the kids using dollar store bow and arrows to try and shoot it off. No one got the cone to fall off but lots of them hit Kevin. The kids thought it was a riot! Note the eye protection. I may like to torture my husband but I wouldn't want any permanent damage :)
Bowling day: The kids enjoyed this for the first 7 frames or so. It took a bit of coaxing to get them to complete all their games. D decided he can bowl with true bowling form. I mean come on, he does it on Wii bowling all the time! He actually did pretty good.
Here is my M bowling. I just LOVE those little bowling shoes!
Our city bus ride to the local mall: D- unimpressed that I am taking a photo. M- over the moon excited that he is on a bus! After all that play and fun and some swimming, here is M and Daddy snuggling for a rest. I don't know why blogger insists on rotating this photo. It was oriented properly before I uploaded it.
And my garden: I spent a lot of time babying my garden this month. We somehow managed to have warm dry weather for over a week and I actually had to water it every day! Unbelievable I know. In case you were not familiar with Kohlrabi, this is what it looks like. I had never grown it and thought it was a root vegetable. Its not, it grows above ground which is really nice for figuring out when it is a good time to harvest. Unlike my red onions that I keep ignoring, trying to convince myself they need more time. I want them to be nice and big, but I have no idea how well they are doing. It is driving me nuts!
Yesterday we harvested our first potatoes. Oh my, they were heavenly. So buttery and creamy textured. Both myself and my hubby were just so excited! I can't wait to dig out more!
And of course now we are already feeling like fall is bearing down on us. Cold nights and short days just make me sad. I am really hoping that we will manage one last burst of summer. We deserve it after the crap we have gone through, don't we?

Date night

Friday night D and I had our first date night. We have had Mommy and D outings before, but this was our first, planned, evening out. Just the two of us. It really was great. He got to chose what he wanted to do. He chose a movie. We headed to the theater an hour ahead of time to get some supper and play in the arcade. I couldn't get over how happy he was. He was so proud to be there with me and so happy to just get a hot dog and play a few games. It was his night so I tried not to say no to anything. But thankfully he is a reasonable kid and I didn't have to. We went to see Shorts, I thought it was okay, he loved it, which made me happy. The night was about him, not me. And I know how fleeting this time will be. In a few short years he won't be interested in a "date" with Mom. At the end of the night he made me promise we would do this again. I can't wait!

As a side note: How can you tell you are pregnant and hormonal?? When you cry your way through two of the previews! OMG it took all I had to hide my sniffling from D. They had a preview for this new Sandra Bullock movie which had me gasping. Then they played the preview for the movie version of "Where the wild things are" and the combination of the Arcade Fire song and the clips and, oh man, I don't know what. I get all chills and teary from watching it. Oh hormones, I am a slave to you!

The greening of me

Amy posted about a "Green Smoothie Challenge" today and it got me thinking. I need to boost up my morning nutrition. Toast and jam are just not cutting it anymore. I have done smoothies (green ones occasionally) here and there and enjoyed them. But I have never done them long term. Mostly because I hate my blender and the clean up drives me nuts.

But I need to feel better in the morning. I need to eat better, if not for me, then for this lovely bundle I am growing inside me. So I am doing to give Happy Foody's Green Smoothie Challenge a go. And I will force my husband to do it with me. Cause why not!

As I mentioned, the reason why I fall off the smoothie band wagon a lot is my blender. I received it as a wedding gift (10 years ago) and it works okay but not wonderfully. It doesn't crush ice very well either. Amy linked to a contest to win the Cadilac of blenders, a Vita-Mix. The darn thing is worth $450! I would love a chance to win it too. unexpected break

Hello All,

I didn't expect to take a blogging break. I just completed two weeks holidays. I really thought I would take the time to sit down in the evenings and read, and post. But things didn't work out that way. My brain just wasn't into it. Initially I tried to force myself and eventually I just gave in. And you know what, it felt good to take a break. It was a nice chance of pace and I feel re-invigorated.

We didn't go away on our holiday this year. Kevin had to work (he is saving his holidays for when the baby is born) and the kids just wanted to stay close to home. We did a number of small outings. We went on a Pirate Adventure on Mooney's Bay, I highly recommend this one, it was a blast! We hosted a surprise birthday party for D, he was blown away. We went swimming a lot. I puttered in my garden. Had a nice play date with the TurtleHead clan. We took the city bus to a local mall to get ice cream and we spent a lot of time just relaxing and enjoying the nicest week of the summer. I really got lucky with the weather on my holidays.

I was just getting into the groove of home life and then it was time to go back to work. The only thing that keeps me chipper is knowing that I will be on leave in 3.5 months!!!! YAY!

My reader if choc full of unread posts. I will do my best to drop in and read as much as I can.

Yesterday he was just a baby

Or so it seems.

Today D turns 8 years old.My darling D. It feel like just yesterday that the doctor placed you on my chest and you stole my heart. The feeling of complete love that I had never knew I could feel.

I am not the same person I was before you were born. I am a better, happier person, more energetic and more outgoing. You forced me out of my shell and I am ever grateful for it.

This year has been amazing. You grew so tall (slow down already!), you found your groove at school, you became best friends with your bother (you are in the basement arguing with him over Lego as I type this). You show me unconditional love everyday and I can only hope that I return that love as strongly.

Happy 8th Birthday D!
