Since my last post things have not gone as smoothly as I would like. I managed to get a Candida infection in my milk ducts. If you have ever had this infection you know what it feels like. Like hundreds of hot needles are being stabbed into your nipple while your child nurses. It started on my left then my right. I have been following Dr Newman's protocol of Grapefruit seed extract pills and pro-biotics. My midwife had given me a script for his "All Purpose Nipple Cream" and I brought it to the compounding pharmacy last Thursday to get filled. They said it would be ready yesterday (Tuesday) but when I arrived they told me they could not fill it because the midwife had not filled out the prescription properly. I just about burst into tears right there (I managed to hold it together till I got to the van). They had called me but I had already left to go pick up the prescription so I missed the call. I am pretty furious with them. If they needed 4 days to fill the dam prescription why did they wait till 3pm on the last day to even look at it.
I debated on going to my midwife to get the prescription sorted but then I knew I would have to wait a few more days before the pharmacy would have the cream ready. So I gave up and made an appointment with my family doctor to get a prescription for Nystatin. Originally I had been trying to avoid any anti-fungal creams but I am desperate. The bad pain is gone but it still hurts to nurse which causes me to not want to nurse (but I do, don't worry) and I think it is causing D2 to have trouble latching (he has thrush, I got some Nystatin for him as well). He has been cluster feeding the last few days and at the end my breasts are in so much pain it is unreal. I know you can all relate. Please bear with me as I vent. I truly hope this cream sorts everything out.

I hope it does too.
So sorry to hear things have been hard. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I still owe you a dozen cupcakes, a knit cupcake and some coffee. If those would help at all I will get them to you ASAP.
i had huge problems with yeast. I used canestan cream (you can buy it in the pharmacy) on my nipples and before I nursed I washed it off. Worked for me. If you dont treat yourself it will just keep going from you to the baby and you need to soak your bras in vinager water. Hang in there!!!
Oh gosh, I'm so sorry. No advice to offer--just my support. I hope things get better soon.
Oh my...I had the same thing with my second and I would put my nails through my pal, while trying to feed my little man. I can say once I got using the treatment it clears very quickly....I wish you the best of luck. I also did a lot of hot compresses...they help a bit.
Really unfortunate about the compound pharmacy....I have used the one on Richmond Road near Lincoln Fields...got it the same day maybe try there for future needs.
Oh Chantal, that is really sucky and yes your pharmacy should have done better, it should never take four days to get the med ready.
Your Dr. can write the script for Nipple Cream, I just brought my Dr the recipe from the website and told him I needed it, I had one jar that lasted me a year. My nipples were never so thankful.
If you don't feel better in a day or two go get the Nipple Cream.
I think Apple has acidic saliva so I had burning nipples that made me cry for about three months, until I finally went to the lactation walk in over Milkface.
Oh that sucks! Hope you get back on track soon.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear things are so rough. I had that problem a couple times with my youngest (cracking and bleeding and intense pain...gah!) and was blessing the inventors of Nystatin, really, but it was effective and fast. I hope you are as happy with your decision about using it as I was. And am.
Gah!!! I'm so very, very proud of you for sticking it out through this -- I've had the same infection and it is SO terrible. I hope you're both feeling better very soon. Let me know if you need any pie :).
I still owe you a dozen cupcakes, a knit cupcake and some coffee. If those would help at all I will get them to you ASAP.
